Plas Menai to Dinas Dinlle

Are you ready?  Come on.  It's another walk and it's a sunny day.  We start off on a cycle track between the sea and the main road and guess who we see half way to Caernarfon?   It was Ian who'd driven to Caernarfon and cycled back.  We continued to the harbour and they had coffee and cake in the theatre cafe.  I got water! Then he left us to take the car to Dinas Dinlle and we continued past the walls and over the bridge to look back at the castle.  Quite a sight! We went past Coed Helen along the edge of the road next to the sea.  It was a long road.   After a while it headed inland then crossed a river and headed back to the sea.  That's where we met Ian again. We sat on the beach looking across at Anglesey.   We set off again and he cycled ahead.  We were on our own again and we soon left the road to cross the salt marsh where I managed to have a swim in the river.  I needed to cool down so I had another...

Sunshine to Pwllheli

What a difference a week makes.  They drove all the way back to the other side of Abersoch so we could walk to Pwllheli.  Blue skies and warm sun with a bit of a breeze.  Lovely! After walking across a wet golf course track (Dogs not allowed on the grass!) and a bit of road walking to get through Abersoch (avoiding the Porsches and Range Rovers) we dropped down to the beach. It was lovely to feel the sand between my toes but I couldn't go for a run in the sea.  Being a beagle, I wasn't let off the lead.  We met two other beagle owners later who had the same rules and same bad experience! A head of us was the hill we were going to climb over.  Tame after the hills we'd been over on the Lleyn.   This started with a steep climb up some steps and she kept up with me for a change.  Then we crossed the heathland, looking back towards Abersoch before going round to the other side.  Then we had a long flat walk all the way to Pwllheli's p...

Wet and windy walk to Abersoch

We left Hell's Mouth and looked back at the waves crashing on the beach.  It wasn't promising. As we walked over the top of the headland we got close to the edge.  It was steep.  'I don't think I want to go any further.'  She didn't listen.  We headed on in the wind and the rain.  Sometimes we nearly got blown over.   See that headland?  That's where we were heading. Oh no!  That's miles away. 'Please can we go back,' I woofed as the wind blew me against the fence. She didn't listen.   Then we reached this field. I couldn't see 'breeding bulls' anywhere so we continued.  Notice I'm the one in front. Eventually we reached the top and started walking in the direction of Abersoch.  We never actually got there.   Ian was waiting in the first carpark by the sea.   I enjoyed having a rub down and a drink.  She had to wait to get back to get out of her wet things.

Aberdaron to another Towyn

It started very well with a rabbit in the path but I wasn't able to follow it so continued along the path by a stream until we came to a road.  No sign of the sea yet.  We crossed fields of cows, a bull and lots of sheep.  Then we reached the top of the cliffs and I had to take care - narrow path, steep drop down to the sea and gusts of wind.   Looking back we could see Aberdaron in the far distance.  Looking forward we could see the hill we had to climb over to reach Ian.  Before we reached that mountain, we got lost!  She did find an interesting building that was once a mine working but had to walk cross country to find the road we should have been on.   I kept a look out so we didn't get lost again.   Then we reached the top and there were horses.  We had lunch (I stole her sandwich!) then continued down hill and found Ian who'd cycled up the road.  He went back on the road and we walked down to a cafe where...

To the bottom of the Lleyn peninsula

This was Whistling Sands today as we set off to Aberdaron.  Still couldn't hear it but that's probably because the wind was blowing from the west.  It wasn't as windy as yesterday and we got off to a good start. Instead of sheep on the path, we had these monsters! They were very docile so didn't scare me. There was a big hill to climb though she nearly missed the turn off (blamed the farmer for not putting the sign back).  Up and up we climbed.   The views from the top were good but between this hill and the next was a big drop - almost down to the sea! But we kept on going and eventually reached the top of the next hill just as Ian arrived - in the car!  We stopped on top to eat our packed lunch then set off down.   Are we nearly there yet? Not yet but we could see Bardsey Island and soon we could see round the corner to Aberdaron.  And guess who came to meet us about a mile outside the village?  Yes, Ian was back to make sure I arrived...

Windy walk on the west of the Lleyn

We saw the beach at Towyn in sunshine today as we set off along the coast.  It was windy and there were a lot of sheep in places which meant slippy paths and a short lead to stop me getting too close.  They weren't afraid of me or of the cliffs where they grazed.   Streams cut through the cliffs and that usually meant a steep climb down, cross a bridge and a steep climb up. We were buffeted by strong winds whenever we were on the tops of the cliffs, my ears blowing in all directions.    When we got down to the beach I didn't get chance to have a paddle apart from when we had to walk along the beach in a high tide round some rocks.   We both got wet feet then.  We were meeting him at Whistling Sands but I wasn't allowed on that beach so can't say if they did whistle.  If they did, I didn't hear it - but then they say I've got very selective hearing.

A wet walk from Nefyn to Towyn

I'm still drying out after a very wet walk.  It looked very interesting from the top of the cliffs but then we got down to the shore line and the tide was in.  Undeterred, we skirted the waves (I went in a couple of times) and climbed over rocks to reach the Ty Coch inn where we were expecting to have a drink and treat.  It didn't happen.  He couldn't find anywhere to park and the tide was still in. So we climbed up the hill to the golf course and walked all round the edge of it then continued along the top of the cliffs in the pouring rain.   It was very nice scenery, lots of things to sniff and explore but it didn't stop raining.  We saw him walking towards us and I hoped we were nearly at the car - but we weren't.  Finally we reached the cafe where they shared a sausage roll and gave me some treats (but no sausage roll).

Trefor to Nefyn over hills

We're off on our second walk on the Lleyn Peninsula and I'm almost ready to go.  Just need to sniff this out. Oh no!  Those cliffs look high and there's no footpath round the edge.  Where will she take me? She took me up a very steep hill with sheep and goats taunting me.  We're only half way up but she keeps stopping to take photos of where we were yesterday. We reached the top and this is what I saw ahead of us.  A long way to go!  Then the rain started and we both got soaked. She took us into a cafe but they didn't really like wet people and certainly not wet dogs so we left when the sun came out.   We walked down to the sea then had to climb up again so I had to pull her.   We passed under some trees and looked down at the sea.  Very pretty but I was getting tired and she hadn't brought her packed lunch so we had to get a move on to meet Ian at the next car park.   We eventually dropped down to a small church at...
