The Good, the Bad and the Windy

It was a bright sunny day when we took the boat from Ellesmere on the next adventure.  I wasn't to know, (they don't include me in their plans) but we were heading for Tattenhall Marina on the Shropshire Union Canal. It all started well.  We   left the car on a layby and  turned round on the arm of the canal by the old wharf buildings.   Our first stop was for lunch at Blakemere, a pretty little spot with lots of ducks (didn't catch any).  They had lunch (didn't share) then we set off and followed the familiar towpath all the way to the bridge near Welshampton. It was just over three miles from the start so we walked back and collected the car which would spend the next night in the Sun Inn carpark.  I had hoped to join them there for dinner but they left me in the car.  Fortunately, I'd already eaten and, once they'd finished their meal, we walked back in the dark under starry skies to the boat.   Day two involved a trip along...

A beagle's life on the water by Stitch

I live with a sailor and his wife.  I've been saved the discomfort of sailing on the high seas but boating is now part of my life.  That's our boat - Knot a Yot!  turning round in a winding hole as a crew member watches from the towpath - then helps the sailor to get it facing in the right direction.    We've had a few adventures on this barge since getting it last October.  Throttle cable snapped on one trip, battery failed on another when I fell in not once but three times.  Now I suffer the indignity of wearing a life jacket and still occasionally fall in then float to the surface and wait to be hauled out. We've been boating ever since we got the barge.  At first we went out from Whixhall Marina; more recently from Ellesmere.  Personally, I prefer to moor up somewhere away from other boats where I can go sniffing along the towpath (on a lead - they still don't trust me) and watch out for other dogs and ducks going past. Whixhall Mari...

Life's a Bitch by Stitch

Me! One of my favourite poses - note the lead. I'm rarely off it when I'm out (unless it's in a 'beagle proof' fenced field). Note to other beagles: keep checking the boundary fence - there's usually a small gap somewhere under which you can escape to freedom. Bit of background on me: Born: April 13th 2019 and went to live in a place called Cheriton on the south east coast with a family that included a teenager (who named me), a toddler (who taught me how to misbehave) and a cat called Lola (who really annoyed me). Don't I look cute? Can you see what's on the collar? An anti bark device. I managed the destroy that one but I've got a new one now. They save it for when I'm really noisy. Note to other beagles: barking really winds them up. I now save it for motorbikes and cycles (anything with one eye), tractors and alsations (I've hated them ever since one savaged me - it's dead now but I'm on a mission to scare any big dog that c...
