Pwllheli to Llanystumdwy (fishy!)

Yippee!   I got to paddle in the sea.  This was going to be a fun walk, even if she wouldn't let me off the lead.

He dropped us off at the seafront in Pwllheli and (after they'd had a scone and coffee) we walked all the way round the harbour then reached the beach.  There were other dogs but I wasn't interested in them.  There were so many other things to sniff - and taste!
Little fishes were all over the sand - she dragged me away after I'd eaten a load.  I think she thought I'd be sick.  It was a very long sandy beach with views to the headland where we were heading and out to sea where I saw a dog on a paddleboard (not alone - there was a human too).
When we got near the end of the beach we crossed some dunes and then walked along the pebbles between gorse bushes and a rabbit warren.  Didn't see any.
This was her picnic spot - looking for seals in the bay while eating smoked salmon butties (and not sharing them).  We walked over the headland and saw a new bay with our destination in the distance, just before the coloured houses of Cricieth.

He met us on the path soon after I'd spotted a rabbit.  He pushed his bike back to the road, crossing this bridge.  I never saw any snakes which was probably very fortunate.  We stopped by the Afon Wen and I had a long drink and wash, coming out of the River White (a Welsh speaker might get this - ha ha).  Then it was a long boring walk along the road all the way to Llanystumdwy where she stayed for the weekend and I went home with him.

Dog Watching

I’m sat here in the back of the boat dog watching.  The little yappy ones I don’t bother with.  Those my size like the spaniels and collies are more interesting.  Occasionally I see another beagle, good looking like me, but, if I see something large like a German Shepherd or a Labrador I’ll really bark.  That’s when I get shouted at. They brought the boat round from Tattenhall Marina on Friday, stopping at the top of Beeston Iron Lock on the first night.  On Saturday we entered the Llangollen canal so I got lots of interesting walks along the towpath.  It rained on Sunday but we had lunch in a pub in Wrenbury and I got the scraps. By Monday night we’d reached the top of the staircase locks in Grindley Brook (thanks to the helpful volunteers) but had to go home on Tuesday for appointments.   As they’re having a new shower fitted, we came back here to Whitchurch that same day and spent yesterday at Cholmondley Castle Gardens where there were loads o...

Prestatyn to Llanddulas

'Come on,' I barked.  'Let's go before the gulls wake up.'   We were on a walk along the promenade from Prestatyn to Llanddulas, 12 miles away. The sea was still a bit choppy after the storms on Monday and the wind was breezy but there was a blue sky.  I met another beagle (off the lead!!!) but it was old.  There were lots of other people with dogs or children or on bikes.  He was on his bike and met us half way at the Bike Cafe by the Foryd Bridge in Rhyl.  Had a long drink and got some biscuits. He stayed with us for a while as we passed lots of work on flood defences along the seafront passing the funfair on the way to Pensarn Beach.   There we stopped for a rest and listened to the bingo caller in the amusement arcade.  The joys of a seaside holiday!   He cycled back to the car and we followed.  She had to be pulled most of the way.

The Good, the Bad and the Windy

It was a bright sunny day when we took the boat from Ellesmere on the next adventure.  I wasn't to know, (they don't include me in their plans) but we were heading for Tattenhall Marina on the Shropshire Union Canal. It all started well.  We   left the car on a layby and  turned round on the arm of the canal by the old wharf buildings.   Our first stop was for lunch at Blakemere, a pretty little spot with lots of ducks (didn't catch any).  They had lunch (didn't share) then we set off and followed the familiar towpath all the way to the bridge near Welshampton. It was just over three miles from the start so we walked back and collected the car which would spend the next night in the Sun Inn carpark.  I had hoped to join them there for dinner but they left me in the car.  Fortunately, I'd already eaten and, once they'd finished their meal, we walked back in the dark under starry skies to the boat.   Day two involved a trip along...
